Amanvana means peaceful wilderness: aman is peace and vana is wilderness. That is what we set out to build on the banks of the River Kaveri in Kushalnagar, Coorg, and what we have looked after since 2009. Amanvana is a 4-star resort run by Kavya Madappa.

The land
The resort sits on the Kaveri, with eight small islands just off the shore. Around the bungalows is an orchard with over 300 varieties of fruit trees and around 40 species of birds. Guests walk the Eight Island River Trek with a guide, take a picnic basket to one of the islands, or sit with a book in the reading nooks along the riverbank. Condé Nast Traveller named our island picnics among India's best riverside picnics.
How we stay
Every guest has a private, standalone bungalow with its own courtyard. The Sunken Spa sits below ground, with a sauna, hot tub and steam room. At the Rainbow Room we serve Kodava dishes such as pandi curry and bamboo shoot curry alongside Indian and international food, and at the Coffee Hut we brew coffee from our own plantation.
Gentle on nature
We keep the lighting low in the evenings so the birds around the resort can roost undisturbed. Food waste is turned into animal feed, rainwater is harvested and we use tree-free paper. Read more about what guides us on our brand values page.
