Best Time to Visit Coorg, Month by Month
Coorg is good to visit all year. Even in its warmest month, average daytime highs in Kushalnagar stay around 32°C, and nights rarely drop below 15°C in winter. Each season suits a different kind of trip. October to March is cool and mostly dry, the easiest time for sightseeing and walks through the coffee estates. June to September is the monsoon, when the hills turn deep green, waterfalls are at their fullest and the roads are quieter. March to May is warm and sunny, with the coffee blossom early in the season.
Where you stay changes the answer a little. Kushalnagar, where Amanvana sits on the banks of the Kaveri, is on the eastern side of Coorg and gets far less rain than the hill towns. In July, the wettest month, Kushalnagar averages about 243 mm of rain against about 632 mm in Madikeri, 27 km away (source: climate-data.org). A monsoon stay here means green views and wet afternoons rather than days indoors.

Month by month
October and November
The rain eases through October, and November is usually dry with clear mornings. On 17 October 2026, Kaveri Sankramana is celebrated at Talacauvery, the source of the Kaveri, about two hours' drive from the resort. Puttari, the Kodava harvest festival, falls in late November or December.
December to February
These are the coolest months, with nights around 15°C in Kushalnagar. It is coffee picking season, so you will see estates busy with harvest, and a good time for a coffee plantation visit. Christmas, New Year and long weekends are the busiest dates of the year in Coorg, so book well ahead if you are travelling then.
March to May
Days get warm, with highs above 30°C in March and April. The first summer showers bring the coffee blossom, when the estates turn white and smell of jasmine for a few days. Plan sightseeing for early morning and spend the afternoon by the pool or in the Sunken Spa.
June to September
The monsoon arrives in June and peaks in July. Abbey Falls, 31 km away, is at its strongest, and the Kaveri runs high past the resort. It is the quietest time to travel and a good season for the spa and long, slow meals. Kailpodh, the Kodava festival that marks the end of paddy planting, falls in early September.
What to do from Amanvana in each season
In the cool months, use the resort as a base for the classic sights. The Golden Temple at Bylakuppe is 7 km away (about 15 minutes), Dubare Elephant Camp is 12 km (about 25 minutes), and Madikeri Fort and Raja's Seat are about 40 minutes by road. Nisargadhama, the bamboo-forest island on the Kaveri, is less than a kilometre from the gate.
In the monsoon, stay closer to home. Watch the rain over the river from the Coffee Hut or the Rainbow Room, book a treatment in the Sunken Spa, and make one trip out to Abbey Falls when the weather clears.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best month to visit Coorg?
There is no bad month. November and December are the safest choice if you want dry days: the rain has stopped, the hills are still green and nights are cool. Pick March or April for the coffee blossom, and July or August for waterfalls and a quiet resort.
Is Coorg worth visiting in the monsoon?
Yes, if you like rain and green hills and want a quiet trip. Waterfalls are at their best. Pack for wet weather and allow extra time on the roads. Kushalnagar gets less rain than Madikeri, which makes it an easier base in the monsoon.
What is the weather like in Kushalnagar compared with Madikeri?
Kushalnagar is slightly warmer and much drier. It gets about 1,180 mm of rain a year, less than half of Madikeri's 2,650 mm (source: climate-data.org).
How many days do I need in Coorg?
Two nights is enough for a relaxed weekend from Bangalore, which is about 230 km or four and a half to five hours away (see Bangalore to Coorg for routes, buses and trains). Three nights lets you add Madikeri and Talacauvery without rushing. See our 3-day Coorg itinerary.
When is Coorg most crowded?
Christmas to New Year, long weekends and school holidays. Weekdays outside these dates are much quieter.
