Coorg has no airport and no railway station, so every trip ends by road. The nearest airports are Mysore and Kannur, both about 100 km from Kushalnagar, with Mangalore about 165 km away and Bangalore about 260 km away. The nearest railway stations are Hassan, about 76 km away, and Mysore Junction, about 90 km away. Kushalnagar, where Amanvana is, is the first town in Coorg on the road from Bangalore and Mysore, so it is the shortest drive into Coorg from either.

There is no railway line in Coorg. A proposed line from Mysore to Kushalnagar was shelved by the Ministry of Railways in January 2026 (source: starofmysore.com). The nearest stations are:

  • Mysore Junction: about 90 km, about 2 hours by road. It has the most trains, including from Bangalore and Chennai.
  • Hassan: about 76 km. Fewer trains, but closer on some routes.

How to reach Coorg by road

  • From Bangalore: about 230 km, 4.5 to 5 hours, via the Bangalore to Mysore expressway, Hunsur and Periyapatna. See Bangalore to Coorg for the full route.
  • From Mysore: about 90 km, about 2 hours, through Hunsur and Bylakuppe.
  • From Mangalore: about 165 km, about 4 hours, through Sullia and Madikeri.
  • From Kerala: from Kannur, about 100 km over the ghat road through Virajpet.

KSRTC and private buses run from Bangalore and Mysore to Kushalnagar and Madikeri. Book ahead for weekends.

Getting around once you arrive

Coorg is spread out and buses between sights are slow, so most visitors use their own car or a taxi. From Kushalnagar, the Golden Temple, Dubare Elephant Camp, Nisargadhama and Harangi Dam are all within 25 minutes, and Madikeri is about 40 minutes away.
